Advertising/Posting Title Animal Care Worker

Posting Summary
With close supervision and training, perform day-to-day care of animals within the University animal research facility, in accordance to established protocols and in compliance with applicable regulations.
Operate autoclave and cage cleaning equipment and follow proper animal care and housing, as determined by departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and institutional policies.
Ensure that animals are properly identified, fed, and observed daily.
Perform daily animal health checks.
Update and maintain husbandry records to ensure that proper research conditions are being maintained.
Assist technicians with medical treatments as needed.
Maintain healthy animals in accordance with The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, legislation as mandated by local, state, and Federal agencies, as well as guidelines set forth by AAALAC.
The importance of animal welfare and animal welfare legislation must be fully understood and followed.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
High school diploma or equivalent required.
A valid driver’s license and UVM drivers check is required.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience handling and caring for animals desirable.
